CABBS
OPTIMIST PRAM
PLANS
This boat plan was developed by members of the Cleveland Amateur Boatbuilding and Boating Society for the purposes of their WHISTLE Youth Sailboat Program and all proceeds from its sale go to support the CABBS Youth Programs. Dimensional and construction data was obtained from an article in a 1950’s era boating magazine. From this data a panel on frame, screw and glue construction was developed to facilitate making this boat in a kit form using modern materials. A secondary purpose was to perpetuate the Optimist dinghy designer Clark Mills’ idea to have a sailboat a youth could build.
This CABBS Optimist will not meet the measurement requirements for competition as stipulated by the International Optimist Association. However, it does provide the same sail training platform as an International Optimist at a much lower cost and can be built by anyone with a minimum of tools and wood working skills.
