Class Project Completed
Back in the spring, CABBS offered an Introduction to Stitch-n-Glue class. Over five Saturday mornings the class assembled the hull of a FLEET, a 15 ft. runabout designed by Australian Ross Lillistone that is optimized for motors of less than 10 horsepower. The participants then continued to meet on a voluntary basis over the next several months to complete the boat.
The boat is construction of 6mm Hydrotek (meranti) marine plywood and sheathed in 6 oz fiberglass set in epoxy. The breasthook, knees, and gunwales are sassafras, a rot resistant local hardwood. The boat is finished off in Kirby Marine paint.
In September construction wrapped and in early December painting completed. A spring launch party is anticipated. We’re eager to see how she performs with her vintage seven horse, reconditioned Evinrude.
