The Goat Has Left the Building

It’s built, painted, and varnished.  CABBS members  turned out in great style on a May Saturday morning to help James Krouse move his Goat Island skiff out of the workspace.  Picking it up and carrying it onto the loading dock they lowered it onto an aluminum trailer.  There is a lot to be said for raw manpower.

Over the past year and a half James constructed the boat from scratch using primarily 6mm marine plywood and red cedar.  He’ll move the boat to his home where he will fit the mast and boom he built and then rig the boat.  Launch will take place shortly thereafter, most likely at LaDue Reservoir where he and the boat can get fully acquainted in a comfortable setting.

James Krouse and his handiwork.

There was a joyous feeling in the air as many hands made light work of moving the hull into the outside world. Of course, James’ supply of coffee and donuts contributed to the enthusiasm.

But let’s not forgot where this all started. There are some ugly duckling stages along the way. Somehow, with persistence, it all turns out … beautiful.
