2026 FALL CLASSES
The changing seasons bring four classes to the schedule at our downtown workspace.
BOATBUILDING TECHNIQUES
Starts Thursday Oct 8, eight consecutive Thursday sessions
6:00-8:30 PM CABBS Workspace
Fee – $260 – limit 10 participants
Learn the basics of small boat construction by building a wooden Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP). You will learn techniques commonly used to build canoes, kayaks, and small sailboats. You will learn – hands on – how to “stitch and glue” plywood panels together using wire, epoxy and fiberglass tape and how to encapsulate parts using epoxy. Building the deck will introduce you to ‘cedar strip construction’. At the end of the class the finished SUP can be purchased for a materials surcharge.
INTRODUCTION TO WOODWORKING
Starts Tuesday October 20, five consecutive Tuesday sessions
7:00-9:00PM CABBS Workspace
Fee – $175 – limit 6 participants
Participants will gain a solid, starting foundation for crafting wood. No woodworking experience needed! Learn the techniques to measure, cut, assemble and finish wood projects and take home your own simple tool box when the class is complete. You will learn how to use woodworking tools including a tape measure, hammer, various saws, screw gun, chisels, planes and a variety of fastening techniques.
SHOPBOT PROJECTS
Starts Monday October 19, four consecutive Monday sessions7:00-9:00PM CABBS Workspace
Fee – $175 – limit 4 participants
Learn how to develop and carve a project on the ShopBot, our computer controlled router. This class is for participants who have a personal project they want to produce on the ShopBot under the guidance of the Instructor. Upon registration the Instructor will review with every participant the scope of their project to determine its suitability for the ShopBot. Once approved, the Instructor will lead each participant through the process of developing their design, create the cutting files and produce the project.
OAR AND PADDLEMAKING

Starts Wednesday October 7, five consecutive Wednesday sessions
7:00-9:00 PM CABBS Workspace
Fee: $175/ paddle, $225/pair of oars – limit 4 participants
Make a paddle or set of oars to match your boat, your needs and your physical size. You will design your paddle or oars and use basic woodworking tools to bring it to life. Whether it is for a canoe, kayak, paddleboard, skiff or other small craft, it’s not done until it feels good in your hands! No woodworking experience required.
CLASS LOCATION: All classes are at the Cleveland Amateur Boatbuilders workspace in the Cleveland State / Asiatown neighborhood.
