CABBS Optimist dinghy plans: Alastair shows the way
Eleven-year-old Canadian, Alastair of Invermere, British Columbia purchased a set of the CABBS Optimist dinghy plan and set to work.
He stated, “Dad helped, but I built most of it myself.” His construction progress photos reveal a deep sense of enjoyment with the process.
As launch day drew near, this capable lad decided to name her OSPREY for the many osprey that live on his home sailing lake. He adjusted the christening ceremony to comply with local laws. He related, “because I’m too young for champagne, I christened her with ginger ale.”
Alastair states that she really flies along the water when the wind catches her and he is looking to many more happy sailing days in the future.
Congratulations, Alastair! You’ve shown how the CABBS Opti plans mixed with a few lengths of wood and a bit of youthful energy can lead to summer after summer of sailing fun.
